RE: IML: eliminating air from DOT 5 brake fluid

Dan,

Air bubbles will get into any brake fluid if you pressurize it while air is
in the line. The trick is to gently push the fluid with the air pockets out
through the bleed holes. Most people have learned to bleed brakes by
pumping up the pedal until it's hard before opening a bleed valve. That
causes any air that's in the line to mix with the fluid. (much like shaking
a can of soda) When the fluid is mixed like that you will never get all the
air out.

The best method is:

1. Open bleed valve
2. Gently push pedal to floor
3. close bleed valve
4. Let pedal return to normal position.

Repeat this process until clear fluid is seen coming out of bleed valve.

After the master cylinder is bled, you should bleed the wheel cylinders
starting with the one farthest away from the master and work towards it.

1. Right Rear
2. Left Rear
3. Right Front
4. Left Front.

Subject: IML: eliminating air from DOT 5 brake fluid

Hello all:

I read through the web-site regarding the pros & cons, tips & tricks, of DOT
5 brake fluid. I have replaced all lines, wheel cylinders, master cylinder,
and any other brake part possible, on my '65 300L (w/ Imp 440 - required
content). I am now going to hook everything up, use DOT 5, bench bleed the
MC, and bleed the brakes.

A note on the web-site suggests that DOT 5 has a tendency to get air
bubbles. A suggestion is to heat the fluid up prior to using to eliminate
the air bubbles.

Here's the question: I'll assume I don't want to boil it - just a nice
simmer? ... for 15 minutes? ... 30 minutes? ... until it reaches a certain
temp? If someone can offer insight, I would greatly appreciate it.
