I love those cars, but its up to you. If you decide you want one of them, you should go see them, so that you won't have any bald face surprises. There are bound to be some anyway, but at least you will have a better idea what you are buying.
The '53 Imperial would be Fluid Drive which is much different than the Powerflite (two speed automatic) in the '54 New Yorker. From the pictures, it looks like the New Yorker has a more correct interior, but that could be due to lighting. It appears the '53 Imperial has been reupholstered (at least the seats) in velour instead of broad cloth. The wheels on the '53 Imperial look better to me than the 1980 Cordoba wires on the '54 N.Y.er.
You really need to go see them.
