Mopar now has a 440 cubic inch small block!

Also, if you go the small block route, the price drops to about 1/4 of what you stated for all new parts. No machining necessary.

Hi;
  Sounds like yet another guy who can't figure out that he doesn't need to wreck a perfectly good car to get a Hemi motor. I would bet that of all of these engines pulled for a hypothetical project 95% are sitting up on end in a garage or shed slowly rusting themselves solid. It never seems to cross their mind that there are hundreds of such disused engines all over North America that they could probably find if they would take the time to look. This isn't even the 331 block that people want, and once you take the price of speed parts and machining into account it just doesn't make sense to build one up let alone pull one for a non existent project.
   The funniest part is that he would be just as far ahead by taking up Dick on his offer of a Packard V8 . I just ran across A guy on Ebay, about a week or two ago, that had a 1954 331 up for auction, built to the hilt. All told he had about $10,000 in parts and machining, never mind mechanic's labour, for a little more then half that much you could build up a 440 or a 400 that would run circles around it. You could rebuild either motor for less but the bang for the buck is definitely with the big blocks even as stock and the Hemi tricked out.

I spoke with the seller when he first listed the car.  He said he would entertain offers for the entire package provided the deal includes a similar motor, which he wants to keep for another project.
