I find generalisations of any sort not only
offensive but inaccurate. I for one find that the generalisation that
horsepower and good styling are exclusive from one another somewhat offensive.
Likewise offensive is the notion that straight males can only appreciate a car
with a four on the floor and a roll cage. Obviously the reporter has never heard
of a Jaguar, a Jensen, or taken a ride in an Imperial or a 300.
I never had much romanticism for muscle cars
as I still remember them being driven as winter beaters in the late
70's early 80's. However I also remember crawling around the front seat of a mid
40's Cadillac when I was about five and being thoroughly impressed by
pictures of 1930s and 1940s limousines and phaeton top convertibles, likely
there was an Imperial in there somewhere. This is not to say that I don't
appreciate a good sports car but triple 5 Chebbies and late 50's
vettes are getting a little old with all of
the hype.

I read this article in the NYT, and find
some of the generalizations made by John Muller to be incorrect and somewhat
offensive. Not all gay males run to look at a pink or amethyst car, nor
do all gay males dislike throaty 'macho' engines. Gays wonder why they
are "stereotyped"? This article lends considerable crecdence to why gay
men are stereotyped. The idea that "brocade" takes precedent over hot
muscle machines is simply hogwash. Just my thoughts on this
matter.
