The media (was Re: IML: John Muller in NY Times today)

Vince and others --

After spending some time as a working reporter and public affairs practitioner, I can guarantee you that Mr. Muller said a whole lot of things, and the story's author chose to use a small portion of them.  Particularly in feature writing, there is not necessarily a connection between what is important to the writer and what is important to the speaker.

I'm sure if you contacted the Imperial owner he would tell you how his remarks were taken out of context.  Likewise, I'm sure the writer would tell you the intent was not to have this one individual speak for all gay owners of classic cars.

Now, back to the Imperial stuff...

I read this article in the NYT, and find some of the generalizations made by John Muller to be incorrect and somewhat offensive.  Not all gay males run to look at a pink or amethyst car, nor do all gay males dislike throaty 'macho' engines.  Gays wonder why they are "stereotyped"?  This article lends considerable crecdence to why gay men are stereotyped.  The idea that "brocade" takes precedent over hot muscle machines is simply hogwash.  Just my thoughts on this matter.

Greeting, fellow Imperial lovers --

Please see the link below for a story about gay-oriented car clubs.  The only car specifically mentioned, and also shown in a photo, is a '54 Imperial owned by John Muller.  If you are not already registered with the NY Times, go ahead and do it.  It's free and does not, to my knowledge, generate any spam.

Happy motoring,

David
