IML: '65 Imperial Grill Removal

Ladies and Gents,
I need to remove the grill on my '65 Imperial.
I've removed the upper and lower horizontal nuts, but the vertical
keepers on the sides don't feel like nuts but like flat pieces of metal with
some kind of "pinchers" holding the mounting pins on.
What's the trick to removing these with the minimal space for your hands??
