Eileen the '59 Imperial
and I made it to Chattanooga today. 600 trouble free (almost)
miles. I'm sure I have bored yall to tears talking about rebuilding
the front end. Well the steering box has some play in it but I decided it
was going to be fine and I could have it rebuilt another time once the
pocket book gets recharged. I did ok with it until Atlanta... Trying
to navigate an 81" wide Imperial down a 75" wide lane at 80mph was quite an
adventure. Even at 80 I had people passing me on both sides..
geesh have people in Atlanta never heard of a speed
limit?
I have also been arguing
with the thermostat housing for the better part of a week trying to stop it from
leaking. Every time I stopped it leaked and left a puddle but seemed to
not leak at all while underway. I only lost half a gallon of water the
whole trip but, of course, I worried about it the entire time.
The trip itself was so
much fun. Every time I stopped the car I would come back out to a crowd of
people all of whom said they had been following trying to figure out what kind
of car it was and wondering if it had a hemi. Our old cars are so
much fun... instead of a bland old trip we get to have adventures and meet
tons of interesting people who would otherwise just drive on by.
Have a good Memorial Day
list and to those coming to Chattanooga I'll see you there!
