I agree 100% that the removal of the insulation from under the intake manifold causes starting issues!  I removed this unsightly insulation from my 1966 Imperial convertible's 440 and the problems began. Not just starting issues. The car would die after it reached a certain operating temperature and wouldn't restart until it cooled down. I replaced the insulation (new, wrapped in foil) and the problems ceased.

I wonder if the hot starting problem occurs after the
odd factory installed insulation is removed from the
intake manifold area.  The lack of this added
installation would allow the gas in the carb area to
overheat(?)  Just a theory.  Any thoughts?
