What he was probably referring to was... On a V8, the engine will come to a 
stop in one of four places, in relation to the starter. That means that the 
starter will "hit" the flex plate teeth in the same four spots all it's 
life. Those four spots will eventually wear the teeth off. Now, that being 
said, if the flew plate IS damaged, why didn't he replace it when the tranny 
was out?
