All manual 61-68 say to service pawl MUST remove pan, valve body & tailbone on Torqueflites 904 6 cyl or 727 V8. Was/ AM Not up to that surgery.
However, thought I would try to adjust Parking cable. So drained tranny. Removed pan to inspect & change filter. Easy enough. Filter not that bad either.
Not as much clutch/ band wear powder as I expected in bottom of pan. (84000mi on broken speedometer).
Removed Parking cable clamp nut. Even tapped stud to see if it would release clamping cable.. No joy moving cable. So removed cable housing to examine inside. Found two problems:
1) spring around cable was stretched into lever ( Pic 1) so Parking cable was never really activating 'the lever which pushes the pawl into the locking gear.
