Re: dumb left hand studs

OK, got this taken care of today. I got the studs out of the rear axle pretty easy with a propane torch, plenty of pb blaster and about 6 raps from a framing hammer. Came out pretty easy, But  the front drum was a different matter. I was getting scared so I took it in to a machine shop i have used in the past for little jobs. Machinist had to use a cutter to trim the swage away. Some little gadget in a drill press that went around the base of the stud where it meets the drum . He showed me the studs when they came out. Never could have done it without cutting that away. You could see where the splines mushroomed out. Kind of like a rivet.

cut the studs close to the drums then center punch and drill to weaken the stud and punch it out

Sounds like a good idea. Here's a Ford site that uses a swage cutter to avoid using the sledge hammer approach.
