Yeah in NY it’s anything older than 1973 is not titled, but it has a transferrable registration. Even if you buy a titled vehicle from another state that’s older than 1973 you wind up with a transferrable registration when you register it in NY. However if you have a 1973 or newer NY vehicle and don’t have the title for it good luck in trying to get it registered. In New England, most of the states did not require titles until the 1970s or 80s, which means that I can buy, for example, a 1965 Dodge from New Hampshire, which did not require a title in 1965, and register it in Maine with simply a bill of sale. I have bought and sold several cars this way without a problem. It makes life a lot easier.
