Thanks for the input, Rich.  I've come to the same conclusion about splicing - seemed like a good idea at the time.  What I'm concerned with now is the length of the pressure hose.  Not much material there for replacing the Borgeson end, and I don't know how to figure how to clock it correctly.  Maybe the best approach is to find a place that can make the hose, cut the present hose and duct tape it correctly clocked and have the shop duplicate that.  Any flaws in that logic??  Anyone else??
