Re: Steering Wheel Removal

I did have the donor wheel all apart when I restored it. The old wheel is still on the car. I wasn't looking at the "new" restored wheel when I was outside working on getting the original wheel off, so I didn't see the extra threaded holes since I didn't take the horn bar off. I didn't think to go look at the restored wheel in the house. Since I don't have the right puller, I wasn't sure what I was looking for for a purchase point. I was thinking more along the lines of pulling the drums off my tapered axles - pulling from farther outside of the hub. I figured it had to be simpler than I was seeing, but I think the 70 degree dewpoint was baking my brain out there. LOL

The wheel I restored came from a parts car. My original wheel is still on the car.

How did you restore your wheel and don't know how to get it apart to remove it or reinstall it???? Did you restore it with the horn mechanism and trim still installed and worked around it??? Just wondering?

One of the things I'm scratching my head over is finding the right place to pull it from. It's a '64 Plymouth sport wheel, so it has a double horn ring. Pulling in the edges of the ring isn't good because it moves, and it's hard to get in between the ring bars and the back of the wheel. See the attached pic. By the way, this is a pic of the wheel we restored before we started working on it.
