The voltage drop you experienced when leaving the key to the run position sounds like a bad connection. The poor connection heats up causing increased resistance and a drop in voltage. The same way the ballast resistor does. If you run a wire from battery to ignition side of the ballast resistor will it stay running. Sent from John
Sounds like a ground problem. Starts in the start position but
dies in the run. I had the same issue on my 41 Ply Street Rod. I understand you
are dealing with stock. Its a ground issue. I had to end up MSD
box.

Lugs all appear good.
I
swapped in another ignition switch and still won't start. Just in case both of
them are bad, I'm gonna try the two starter switches on the other '65 I have and
see if they both work on it.
If
that doesn't solve the problem, next is a tedious job of cleaning the
connections at the bulkhead connector inside and out. The end under the dash
going to be a challenge. But gotta do it in case it's a corroded
connection. Time's a wastin.

I had a problem with my ignition switch where one of the
male lugs on the back of the switch was broken where it is riveted to the body
of the switch. It would make contact some of the time making it hard to
find.
