That is exactly what will happen ! we have done the samething . thinking we sell amsoil and so a brand new engine what better thing to do. Well supprise synthetic wont let the rings break in properly. I use conventional oils for the fisrt 1000-1500 miles or first week end at the track then switch to synthetic.

Hmm, that's good info. Good thing it only has 100 miles on it. I'll have to change it ASAP then. Ill have to make an order for some, then I can switch to synthetic, working in the refinery industry I know how good a syn is for lubrication. But that makes sense, it's gotta be able to wear. Should I wait till the 300 miles then change to conventional then back to syn? Or just change it now, and back later. Hmmm. Decisions. I definitely don't want any problems now or later that's for sure.

I don't remember were I read it but using synthetic oil in a rebuilt flat tappet engine is not advised, because it wont break in correctly due to the synthetic oils excellent lubricating ability.  They recommended running conventional oil with ZDDP for the first 1500 miles and at that time convert over if that is what you want to run into the future.  I do personally know of a case were a SBC's rings never seated in addition to cam problems due to using a synthetic oil from the beginning.  Or that was what the ring & cam manufacturer's claim was.
