The "season" is mostly all year where it does not snow, like where you are. Drive the Dodge a couple times a month in those three months. Good stress release! 

Before you decide to fix the heater you should pinpoint if it is the heater core or something else that is broken.

If it is too cold those three months try using one of those aftermarket 12 Volt Heated Vehicle Seat Cushions that are under $20.  Or have your girlfriend snuggle next to you while you drive. ;)
