Re: Removing pressed in axles - Trick?

Yes, having the correct puller makes all the difference in the world in getting the drums off.

Getting the tapered hubs loose from the axles can be a real
problem. . Loosen the center axle nut a few turns, but leave on. Drive
the car slowly but make some sharp turns to the left and right. If you
are lucky, the hubs will pop loose but the axle nuts will keep them
on. . Otherwise loosen the center axle nut  a few more turns BUT LEAVE
THOSE NUTS ON.  Get a VERY heavy duty puller that attaches to at least
three of the hub lugnuts for the wheel.  When that hub lets loose, it
will make a heck of a bang, and you will see why you leave the axle
nut part way on.  From there on it is pretty much visable as to what
to do. . Attach the axle ends to a slidehammer  to get the axles and
bearings out. Good Luck, and I  mean a HEAVY duty puller! There is
lots of info on pulling these axles on the internet, and I am sure
there is a tech on it here at 62-65 Mopar or no
car.............................MO
