yeah the 80s cars generally were stripped down, real light, certainly no abs or airbags. The technology was years behind today. Plus a 40 mpg car of today would stomp a 40 mpg car of the 80s, those things were gutless for the most part. if you took the motor from a current car and put it in a 80s lightweight pile of crap it would probably get 60 mpg and scream doing it. the new cars are pretty heavy really, I was suprised, but just look under the hood, so much more "stuff" there, no suprise plus abs brakes, air bags, safety equiptment, etc. 100 mpg, ehhh, yeah maybe some day, i wouldnt doubt it. Not in a 5000 lb SUV type thing certainly.
