10 pounds per 1000 rpm was the guideline my dad used.

The 340 i had in my 65 for a while would show a couple needle widths
off zero at hot idle. The lifters never got noisy and it ran fine that way for
several years.

One of our race engine would show about 10 pounds at idle...same thing..never a
problem.

The comments I made about low oil pressure being common is in big block Mopar engines.  When hot and with the rpms up past 1500 RPM, your oil pressure should go up to at least 40, like Gary said.  That applies to any and all gasoline powered internal combustion engines.
