Re: Carter AFB replacement?

Ive had 3 Edelbrocks and 1 or 2 Carters and had the same problem with all of them. Hard starting and 2 of the Edelbrocks and 1 of the Carters were brand new. I did some checking to try to find the cause of the problem. Put a fuel pressure guage on the line into the carb then started the car and let them warm up then shut it off. After it shut off I watched the fuel pressure and it would go up to between 5 and 6 lbs of pressure and gas vapors would come out of the carb indicating gas leaking into the carb. I suppose the increase in pressure is due to the fact that it gets warmer for a few minutes after you shut a motor off. The increase in pressure probably caused by expansion from the increase in heat.Anyway the Edelbrocks and the Carters wouldnt hold anything over 5 lbs of pressure. I asked the parts store who checked with the Edelbroch rep and he said the same thing; they wont hold over 5 lbs of pressure. The mechanical fuel pump operates at between 4 and 5 lbs of pressure. (Cutting it kind of close I thought).

The 750 Edelbrock on my car has the same problem with starting. Even after it's been sitting for even a couple hours, you have pump and crank the hell out of it to get it to fire. Once it's been running for a bit she goes like stink. It did that brand new out of the box.
