With the right puller, those drums will come off without damaging them. Do
not pound on the axel end and loosen the nut till the face of it is even
with the axle end to prevent damage to the axle threads. You must pull from
at least 3 studs( 5 would be better) do not try to use a puller from the
drum edge And the puller has to be one stout SOB~ Be sure the drum isn't
hanging up on the shoes. I saw a homemade puller that required no
hammering. Basicaly it was a heavy plate steel with 5 holes drilled to fit
your drum stud bolt pattern and a hole in the middle big enough to go over
the hub. Install the lug nuts turning them over so the flat side is against
the plate. weld four small pieces of angle from the base plate to another
plate with no holes for the other end. . This must be big enough and long
enough to put a bootle jack inside of this "cage" Put jack inside the
cage, one end against the axle nut which is flush with the axle end-- the
other end of the jack against the opposite end plate. You now have a
hydraulic drum puller with no moving parts.
Bob, there in Omaha you have a clutch and brake place that does excellent
drum turnig and relining of your shoes, and they fit the shoes to your
drums( arch them) It is a small, old shop located just Southwest of Omaha
downtown. I have their card somewhere. Top notch work at a very reasonal
price................MO

I wouldn't want to risk his life ;)
The brakes are bad, and I was going to replace the shoes while the drums
are off... I had so little confidence in the brakes I had the '62 towed
to his shop

Loosen the axle nuts (DO NOT REMOVE) and go do figure 8's or S's in his

the
first place!! (-;
If one drum comes loose and the other not, just snug the nut on the
loose
one and keep trying. You know the drum you need off will be the tough
one.

anyone know a good rear drum source for a '62 chrysler?
I snapped the bleed valve off one of the rear wheel cylinders, and have
to get the drums off.
I've thrown in the towel, took my '62 to a mechanic... even with a
puller he can't get the drums off.
looks like he may have to destroy the drums to get them off, so I'll
need replacements.
let me know if you have a line on brake drums.
Thanks
