If I want something newer, I'll open the windows in the wifes car and put in a CD. Or crank the 500watt house system if no ones home.

Yeah, Sirius is cool. In my case, I had a spare computer I was going to throw out. To clarify, after Pandora hits the 40 hour monthly limit, you can just pay $1.00 to get unlimited use the remainder of the month. - Jim Jim Altemose, Long Island, NY '63 Polara 500 (Max Wedge) '63 Polara 500 (383) '65 Belvedere I (Street Wedge) '71 Bronco On Wed, Mar 9, 2011 at 11:48 AM, Bill<Y1TopBanana73@xxxxxxxxx> wrote:Jim, My only issue with the "free" Pandora is that you are limited to 40 hours of listening per month. I listen to this at work quite often and seem to hit that limit on a regular basis. I was having difficulty with going wireless out in my garage as it's a metal pole building (and my laptop sucks), so I went with a solution that killed 2 birds with 1 stone. I bought a Sirius satellite radio. We put the suction cup car mount in our 65 Coronet to use for cruising around, and I also bought a "boom box" unit for it and set that in the garage. I took a magnetic mount car antenna, poked it through to the outside, and tossed it up on the metal roof. I get crystal clear reception without fail, and the boom box sounds fantastic. I can also take the boom box with me to car shows and listen there. I also bought another car base that I use in my daily driver so I only have to transfer the pocket-sized head unit between locations. It took me a little while to decide to pay the ~$12/month, but I honestly have to say I'm hooked, I love it, and would never want to give it up!!! This is OT, but we all spend time in the garage and I'm pretty pleased with the music setup I just put in If you hate computers or don't care about music, you can stop reading. I used to use a 5 CD boom box, but my new setup is way better. There's many free Internet music services, but one I like is Pandora (www.pandora.com). You simply type in the name of an artist you like and it then continually streams music of similar artists to the computer. For instance, I like rockabilly and typed in Reverend Horton Heat, and got Fabulous Thunderbirds, Stray Cats, Johnny Cash, etc. So, I had an old crummy laptop that my son had plucked a bunch of keys off back when he was 3. I reinstalled Windows to freshen it up and connected it to a stereo amp. Being out in the garage, the wireless signal was too weak. So, for $25 I got a Linksys wireless extender and plugged it in in my house close to the garage. This gave me a good strong signal. Now I don't have to worry about CD's, and I hear bands and songs I never heard of before. I also ran speakers to my backyard patio so we'll have music out there. With Pandora, I can just put on any music anyone wants and don't have to play DJ. - Jim Jim Altemose, Long Island, NY '63 Polara 500 (Max Wedge) '63 Polara 500 (383) '65 Belvedere I (Street Wedge) '71 Bronco
