Butch, I had a similar problem on a low mileage '68 Imperial a couple years back, and discovered the lower radiator hose was collapsing (as you mentioned below). It only did it once the hose got warm but was hard to see . I wound up a spring with some stainless steel spring wire and the problem went away. Sounds like you should be cruising cool by Monday :) SC -----Original Message----- From: Butch Edison [mailto:waedison@xxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Thursday, June 24, 2010 11:00 AM To: 1962to1965mopars@xxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: Over heating For what it's worth.... I'm travelling the same path with my 64 Sport Fury 383. Within 5 minutes of starting and driving, it's running at 210 degrees F in 60-70 degree weather. If I stop, it immediately starts climbing into the 120s. I can watch the temps go straight up on my infrared gun. It ran hot before, but since finding it had no thermostat and putting in a new one, it's a lot worse. It has a new 180 degree thermostat. I had the system back flushed and the tech said it was actually pretty clean. Not being a guy for incremental solutions, I'm going to be doing several things this weekend: * Replace missing fan shroud * Replace missing air dam * Replace missing hood-to-radiator gasket * Install correct fan and clutch fan ** Install "Cool Cruising" high performance water pump ** Install "Cool Crusing" 160 degree thermostat, per their recommendation. Now, if this doesn't solve the problem, I think I'm looking at three things left: * possibly bottom radiator hose is collapsing, restricting flow.It seems to be really stiff, but they don't come with springs in them anymore, so maybe... * New radiator, although the radiator shop thinks this one is fine * Take the engine apart and see what's blocking flow Now, it could be that my water pump is just going bad on it's own and putting a stock replacement in would cure this, but my experience with water pumps is they generally make noise or leak when they start going bad, which this one has not done. I'll let you all know if this works. Suggestions from you guys are ALWAYS appreciated. /Butch/Ferndale, WA ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jeff" <chargr1969@xxxxxxxxx> To: 1962to1965mopars@xxxxxxxxxx Sent: Wednesday, June 23, 2010 11:16:56 PM GMT -08:00 US/Canada Pacific Subject: RE: Over heating yes a 180 thermostat. is very helpful. --- On Wed, 6/23/10, Cory Rempel <cory_383@xxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: > From: Cory Rempel <cory_383@xxxxxxxxxxx> > Subject: RE: Over heating > To: 1962to1965mopars@xxxxxxxxxx > Date: Wednesday, June 23, 2010, 9:28 PM > > > > Thanx Ollie, but I DO have a big block 3 core rad.
