Re: B body disc brakes

But realistically, when do you think you will ever have to replace your entire brake system? Maybe once when you are restoring the car and with the limited driving of most cars, proper storage and attention they get you will never do the conversion again in your lifetime. I think there is nothing wrong with the kits that use different parts. Just do what I do with my other hot rods, have a log book that stays with the car with the parts and part numbers and you will be okay, if you break down and need a certain part. How many guys here actually take the car on more than a few long trips a year that you would not be close to a parts store. I don't know about the rest of the world but here in Canada alot of parts stores do not have parts books now for pre 79 and usually there is a pimply faced kid who is serving you at the counter and he does not even know what a Dodge Coronet is from a Hyundai. But if you give him a make and model of a newer part, they can look it up for you fine, although they still ask you what motor it has and if it has air conditioning when you want a windshield wiper!! If you have access to a salvage yard then fine, but if not order the kit. Most of these kits are made by fellow enthusiasts who have taken the time to source the cheapest alternative to stock parts and would not sell something that is dangerous.
Just my 2 cents.
cheers
Steve

That is the exact setup I also used Bill. Besides being easier,it's all Mopar. Wandering through the salvage yard was also fun.

I personally wouldn't go with one of those kits that use
ferd rotors
w/ Camaro calipers, Hyundai brake hoses, packard brake
hardware, etc,
etc, and specialized pads from that manufacturer. First
problem is
you'll have a hard time remembering what parts came off of
what
vehicle when it comes time to replace them, and then you
have to hope
to God that the place you bought the kit from is still in
business to
get any of their specialized parts! Do the part swap from
an A, F-M-J,
or late B-Body. The parts are plentiful and NOT specialized
to one
small manufacturer. Personally I used the spindles, caliper
brackets &
rotors from a 73 B-Body and then used 73 E-Body calipers.
Works great
and it's all plentiful Mopar parts available from your
local parts
store. Just my $0.02

The slider caliper has a notch in the caliper bracket and
the caliper
has and appropriate notch itself that the 2 mate together.
The late
model B&E-Bodies use a pin type caliper which also
works very well.
Most places sell a caliper kit that has hardware and pins
included.
