Re: Cash for clunker cars

This is the same thing I've heard from multiple sources. This program disgusts and offends me as an automobile lover - even if the cars aren't "classics". It's terribly wasteful, and I don't see the sense in it economically. Guys like us can keep these cars in service much cheaper than by buying a new vehicle - no matter how much difference there is in fuel economy. By destroying them, they not only lower the population of these autos, but they deplete the usable parts available to keep the ones that are left in operation. When a guy I work with told me his 2003 minivan qualifies for this program, I figure there is something really wrong going on. I also think this program is encouraging the purchase of new cars by people who may not have been looking to buy a new car - most likely through credit. Isn't that the root of the economic mess we're presently in in the first place - too much debt?! At the risk of sounding radical, I suggest that this
is an somewhat veiled attempt by some politicians at pushing their environmental Nazi agenda on all of us. (Disclaimer: I'm an independent and not anti-environment.) To me this is typical Washington short sightedness - and most of all - wastefulness. What - we don't live in throw-away society enough as it is already - that we have to crush perfectly good automobiles now? Okay, I'm done preaching to the choir. If you aren't in the choir - no offense intended.
