Sounds like you have a short or problem with the wipers Mike. The wiper
switch has a built in self resetting circuit breaker built into it. The
click your hearing is probably that circuit breaker kicking out and in. I
had a similar problem with an A-100 van I owned. I had to take the wiper
linkage apart and clean and oil it. It was binding up and causing the motor
to draw too much current and kicking out the breaker in the switch.

I just had another thought, are any of the other accessories drawing their
power from the 12 volt lead to the wiper switch? If I remember right on a 65
Barracuda I owned the factory tach sending unit got it's 12 volt power from
the wiper switch.

I just picked up my '64 Polara 500 from the headliner shop (he did a
fantastic job in less than 4 hours!) and started noticing an annoying
short in the electrical system. There is an audible "click" and the
ammeter pegs discharge, the radio quits, the tach quits and then a few
seconds later all is back working. Also, the wipers don't work unless the
"click" starts and then only for a half sweep or so. I can hold the wiper
switch and feel the click too. It happens every few minutes if you leave
the accessory on, but doesn't seem to happen while driving. Anybody have
any ideas? Thanks.
