Re: local car show

Car shows --by and large it is a matter of bias and politics. If you are a mopar owner-don't expect much. The later Mopar muscle cars are beginning to win more. When I enter shows, I don't expect a chance at a trophy, but I have fun talking to people about my non-bellybutton Mopar. Mine is a driver and I don't spend a lot of time and money in top notch detail. I do have a trophy that means a lot to me- It was a special award-big honk'in trophy in a field of many cars at Fremont Nebraska, given by Communications Workers of America titled " Love of labor for a labor of love".....................MO.....sw iowa ----- Original Message ----- From: "Herb" <zephyr9900@xxxxxxxxxxx>

Just going to chime in with my two C. Ya hate to suspect they are setup but
I had my 59 Dodge at a show Saturday with about 45 cars and a person with
an OK 57 Chevy rolled in late, the show started at 09:00 am and he showed at
about 12:00 PM apologizing to the staff and at the 2:00 PM awards he got
best of show???? From popular voting WTH!! After the awards I had about 10
people I did not know, make a special trip over and say they were shocked
because they voted for my car and were wondering how a mediocre late arrival
won when most people voted before he arrived. The show was for a great
cause, I had a good time and left with a good feeling being able to help the
residents have a good day. And by the way I thought a 53 Plymouth should
have won, and I won the 50/50 so my gas was defiantly paid for! (; Then
Sunday at another show at a local Tech School with about 150 cars I was
lucky enough to win 1st in my class from 1945 to 1966. Cool, especially
with a gaggle of Chebys in attendance! The award for best of show gets
announced and an all black 55 Chevy that took third in our class gets it??
Their were several cars that out shined his and mine in the over all show.
Just my ramblings but it kind of makes you scratch your head and shrug your
shoulders, but your right their are a lot personality's and biases involved
in these shows with popular voting. Go Figure!

SB...
You have brought up a good point regarding car shows and mopars. I hope this
does not cause an uproar but my experence tends to come up with your same
point. Most are local car shows are participent judged. Most people tend to
vote for cars they like, wished they had back when, a color attracts them,
etc. They do not judge a car on its own merits. Also another point is you
vote for your friends cars and they for yours regardless of any other
factors..
One of the most interesting things I did was attend a judging seminar held
by Southern Motor Sports. I graduated a certified judge. Wow ..my
certificate and 75cents will buy me a cup of coffee most any place. What
there goal is...to offer free independent judging to car shows. Hopefully
you will get away from the bais, friends, etc. voting.
Another sad fact that a mopar owner must remember is..we have always been
#3, sold less vehicles, and most people did not like the looks of them. If
you are at a car show with 100 plus cars...there will never be a mopar
winner unless it happens to be a challenger which has taken a resurge
lately. The mustangs, camero's and triple 5's will dominate the day.
All that said...our fellow members grinding their teeth, choking on the AM
coffee, blood pressure rising...we do love our cars!!! Hey, we went to the
show to pass a good time!!!!
