voltage regulator prices

The electronic voltage regulators that Chrysler used in the 1970's and
1980's. In the stores I've checked, they have them for about $15 and
about $50, with nothing in between. Why such a difference? I'd like to
buy the cheaper one, but I don't want to skimp out if I'd be missing
something important.
