Re: Alt

Their were no real misconceptions at all! Yes, you converted your car to
make the boat alternator work and that was a great idea, but the essence of
the conversation was about common automotive terminology and common
automotive replacement parts. Additionally we were talking about 63 factory
wiring not a car with wiring upgrades. If you want to get really hi-tech
there is an application that I saw were you completely eliminate your
alternator, your starter is installed direct drive and is used for starting
and charging, talk about the ultimate One Wire!

Seems that there are some miss conceptions concerning the 100 amp alt single
wire I just installed. 1. it is not a GM alt. It is in a standard 60 amp
mopar case. 2. Yes, it is internally regulated. The regulator is attached to
the rear, I did require 1/2" longer belts so the regulator cleared the
block. Brackets are all orginal 3. yes tractors use this type alt BUT it was
first developed for marine applications. 4. going to burn my wiring
up..bull..you are not using your wiring harness. You remove the external
regulator, install a heavy gauge wire 6 or least 8 from the alt direct to
the battery. 5. it is self exciting..a car that sets up for long periods
like our cars may require an increase in the rpm's for it to start the first
time after sitting

I have rewired my Satellite, but not necessary. The only orginal wiring
being used is the light harness.I also used some of the wires from the bulk
head connector. Picked the biggest ones , mostly sensor wires just to pass
the fire wall...new on both sides. I needed more power to run my 2 cooling
fans, A/C, amp, 6 way power front bucket seats(adaped from lincoln town car
FORD), MSD ing. 60 amps was not cutting it. More especially at cruising car
shows when u are idleing all day long. It was very difficult to find this
alt. Tuff Stuff is about it. All they had was a chrome..alumium would have
been great for me. Best $145 I have ever spent.

PS....let the smoke fly.I can handle it!!
