Yeah! I always get a kick out sitting by my 63 Fury convert at a cruise night and watching some older guy like me pointing out the pushbutton transmission to some younger companion. I have a friend of mine that I've known for years who's a mechanic for Goodyear and he's the only one I let do my front end alignments or other work on my old Mopars that I can't do myself. Even though I think he just turned 50 I still call him a kid because he's that much younger than me. He's a Mopar guy and races a 440 powered Demon that runs in the high 9's. He's very familiar with Mopars but one time I managed to stump him. Quite a few years ago I bought a 57 Dodge station wagon and took it to him for the state inspection. He pulled a front wheel to check the brakes and just stood there with this dumbfounded look on his face and scratching his head. "What's wrong" I said. He sort of stuttered and said "But there's 2 wheel cylinders in there and a brake line connecting them" "Yep" I grinned "You never saw that before huh? And you thought you knew Mopars." I guess that was the first time that he'd worked on a Mopar that was old enough to use the dual front wheel cylinder set up. Now you old guys like me know what I mean but you younger guys probably have no idea what I'm talking about. LOL

If they can't see how to drive it how can they fix it? ;)But mechanic brain fade is not limited to our old vehicles. I had some front end work done on a Dakota and the guy left a cotter pin off one of the suspension links. He also, probably by using an air gun to tighten up a bracket holding a brake line, stripped the two brake line bracket bolts. A couple weeks after the work I found one of the brake line bracket bolts gone and the other one had almost worked its way back out, and the brake hose bracket was almost ready to fall off.I fixed that myself with some new nuts and bolts, and added the cotter pin.Gary H.
