Joey that is an awesome tip! I haaaaate the MP Race Hemi Orange Paint and have long looked for a replacement, but never found one in the earlier, brighter orange color our cars need.
The MP stuff is thin, almost no solids content to speak of. I always expect 3-4-5 coats to get good coverage. Half the time the junk turns brown after running the engine a couple times. Every can is a slightly different orange making touch up a hell of a lot more work... and nine bucks a can too!
I will be sure to try the Allis Chalmers stuff. Cheers Wakeman----- Original Message ----- From: "Joey" <jake4@xxxxxxxxxx>

Mopar performance paint is pretty expensive and takes a lot of coats to getit right, I suggest going to local Tractor Supply and get a can of AllisChalmers orange, looks a lot like the factory stuff and a whole lot cheaper.Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!! If you want the max wedge look it is Orange paint, P4120751.stick. http://www.ehow.com/how_4432119_paint-engine.html gives an example of cleaning. That should be easy for you since the motor came from the machineThe general rule is that the cleaner the metal, the better the paint willshop.http://www.totallyautoinc.com/paintingtips.html gives more detail. Using aluminum foil to cover some places you do not want to paint is anoption. The foil is easy to manipulate to match the underlying area and protect it from the spray.Gary H. -----Original Message----- >hi all >what is the best method for painting the motor ,heads ,intake and allthat good stuff.>also what paint is used as well. i got the block back so im ready to putit together.>i had the 440 bored .030 over and im going to put max wedge top end onit..directly to that person.
