Having been around when max wedge were actually at the track I always remembered the colour not quite what MP sells. Basically they sell race hemi orange which is slightly lighter than street hemi orange and if you bought a hundred cans of it everyone would be different. (I bought three for $70 once but the motor didnt look right. )The colour was too orange to me. I remember it being a pastier yellowish orange when these cars were new. Then one fateful day i was talking to a paint rep at the local auto parts place. Actually someone else asked the question. They asked what is the difference between engine paint and other paint. He looked straight at us and said ""engine paint comes in engine colours"" I ask ïs that the only difference?"" He said, ""ÿup, same actual paint but in engine colours"" I immediately quit looking in engine paint displays and broadened my search. A few days later while tripping through Walmart i found the exact colour I remember them being , on sale for 2 bucks a can. I bought several cans and tried it. He was right. It lasts just fine and it is also the colour I remember them being back in the day. It has been a few years now and no peeling or discolouration. It lloks right to me anyway and no one has questioned the colour at the hundred or so cruise nights I have been too.

Mopar performance paint is pretty expensive and takes a lot of coats to getit right, I suggest going to local Tractor Supply and get a can of AllisChalmers orange, looks a lot like the factory stuff and a whole lot cheaper.Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!! If you want the max wedge look it is Orange paint, P4120751.stick. http://www.ehow.com/how_4432119_paint-engine.html gives an example of cleaning. That should be easy for you since the motor came from the machineThe general rule is that the cleaner the metal, the better the paint willshop.http://www.totallyautoinc.com/paintingtips.html gives more detail. Using aluminum foil to cover some places you do not want to paint is anoption. The foil is easy to manipulate to match the underlying area and protect it from the spray.Gary H. -----Original Message----- >hi all >what is the best method for painting the motor ,heads ,intake and allthat good stuff.>also what paint is used as well. i got the block back so im ready to putit together.>i had the 440 bored .030 over and im going to put max wedge top end onit..directly to that person.
