oh come on!!!
so its more of a challenge than you expected?!
the engine kit ought not run you $100, but even still..,, it might
be the quickest and most straight forward way to solve the problem.
If I go to the trouble of pulling an engine and putting it on a
stand,,   I wouldn't think twice about throwing an gasket kit at it,,
pulling the intake,  do some inspection,, cleaning, etc..
