Tom, It's been a while since I've fooled with points because I've 
converted everything to electronic ignition but the dwell is determined 
by your points setting. If yours is too low you need to set your points 
closer together. You'd be surprised at how far off you can be by setting 
the points with a feeler guage. I assume you have a dwell meter since 
you know what the dwell angle is. After you reset the points and get the 
dwell reading right (usualy around 30-32 is good for a V8) then you can 
check your timing (after your trip to Sears LOL) Unhook and block off 
your vacuum advance first. BTW your timing will change with engine speed 
but not your dwell reading, If your dwell is changing with engine speed 
you probably have a worn distributor shaft. Your rough idle may also be 
a carb or vacuum leak problem.
