If yours is too low you need to set your points closer together. You'd be surprised at how far off you can be by setting the points with a feeler guage. I assume you have a dwell meter since you know what the dwell angle is. After you reset the points and get the dwell reading right (usualy around 30-32 is good for a V8) then you can check your timing (after your trip to Sears LOL) Unhook and block off your vacuum advance first. BTW your timing will change with engine speed but not your dwell reading, If your dwell is changing with engine speed you probably have a worn distributor shaft. Your rough idle may also be a carb or vacuum leak problem. Hope that helps, Dan Here's a web site you may want to check out on setting points. http://www.allpar.com/fix/points.html Tom Duross wrote: > > > Hi Campers, > > Just what is this thing called a dwell angle? > > My 64 Belv's poly started running rough at idle the past few, no maybe > the past couple of weeks. > Checked the points, right around 015", maybe 017" but right there with > the specs (014-019). > The dwell angle though, I couldn't get up past 26-27 degrees and it's > supposed to be 28-33. > Should I have checked the timing?
