By this I mean holding a finger or thumb over the spark plug hole with the engine being cranked. When the cylinder is on the compression stroke it will "blow" past your finger or thumb. Immediately stop cranking the engine and line up the timing mark and you are at TDC for the compression stroke. This is where you want to be to start your firing order regardless of where the rotor is pointing. To get the rotor in the right place, the intermediate shaft and gear must be repositioned. Hope this helps. Scott -----Original Message----- ------------------------------------------------------------------- I would say from experience that you have a good chance of having the distributor 180 degrees out. Turn the engine over exactly one more revolution to TDC then put the distributor back to number one. Remember that the cam turns at half the speed as the crank. You can also watch the number 1 cylinder valves to make sure you are at TDC. The piston comes up two times and only one is TDC for each cam revolution. Guys, correct me here if I am wrong as I don't have my book in front of me. Crank it over (by hand) until the exhaust valve opens, then closes. The next time 0 degrees on the crank come up is TDC.
