Re: '62 Dodge Dart 4 Door. WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

My 300K didn't have the original 413 engine and being 17 years old in 1981 I didn't have the wisdom to know how that variance would affect the cars value.  The air conditioning compressor was missing also. I really loved the stretched look of the car. I am contemplating debadging the car ....it goes into paint and body tomorrow...finally,  after 43 years of ownership. When painted, it truly will be a WTF? kind of car is that.

Hello &  Merry Christmas All, I say it depends on what needs to be serviced, repaired or fixed, anytime any system it's not going to change the character of the vehicle when service is required should be upgraded when and where possible.  If that means modernizing something in the electrical system for example then so be it. Or if something wears out it needs to be replaced, logic dictates it should be replaced with something that has a higher quality to it or a better manufacturing process than what was available at the time.
I've spent 40 years in the manufacturing business and more often than not a manufacturer's decision to use any particular system is not based on what's best for the vehicle but what is the most cost-effective and this should be kept in mind by the end user.

Just because an item or system is stock or factory installed doesn't mean that it's best for the vehicle or the people who ride in it, more likely than not it means that is what was the cheapest available at the time.

Bought a 64 Chrysler 300K in high school in 1980...the car project taught me electrical,  engine building,  mechanics, welding and fabricating,  painting and bodywork, stereo design and install, metal polishing and chrome plating.  It's not original but it's a cool , lead sled built from ground-up with powder coated frame. When you buy a car, if it's all stock, I'd keep it stock but mine wasn't so I just made it look and run nice with lots of chrome,  nice, new leather upholstery and good stereo. Just my opinion. Being a purist I would cherish this vehicle and not change a thing. However I understand Bad Chad's intention but it would break my heart. See Bad Chad on Motor Trend and YouTube. He's amazing. I've owned my '64 Sport Fury for the last 49 years. 383, 727, console. Even the clock works. BTW original paint. Back to the main topic, do you keep it stock and  enjoy history or radically change it to make it your revisionist history? Would love to hear comments from the group.
