Sorry been busy for awhile.   The way to check the polarity of an old school speaker is to touch the terminals from a 1.5 volt battery like a AA or a "c" cell.  The first movement of the speaker cone should be forward or away from the magnet when the polarity is correct.

I have some questions that arise from this thread.   Back in the day ('60's) most all speakers were 8 ohm.  Modern speakers seem to be mostly 2 ohm.  So my limited understanding of electronics makes me think that modern devices such as the shown bluetooth microprocessor would have to work much harder, limiting their potential volume output when paired with older 8 ohm speakers.
The other question is relevant for 6 volt (+) ground systems.  In his hand drawn schematic he shows 6 volts (-) being connected to what would normally be the 12 volt (+) input on the bluetooth device.  Or am I misunderstanding this particular point?

Good questions. The applications I've seen mostly go through the existing radio, for example this install in a  1967 Fury:

There are external Bluetooth enabled speakers that also have input jacks to plug in a wire connection from a headphone jack in a phone (if the phone has one!). My limited experience is wire connection works better.

Then you use the controls on the phone / output device to select the treble, bass, and volume.

That's about it for my pay grade on this topic. :)
