For me, the key is to know your Mopars. When I see sombody advertising a "numbers matching" pre-68 Mopar or a "frame off restoration" on a Unibody, I just snicker and keep going.

Then sometimes you get lucky. A few years ago I spotted a local ad in the Recycler "1962 Valiant convertible-500" As most of you are already saying to yourself "the valiant wasn't offered in a convertible in 62." So I figured it was either a 63-66 Valiant owned by someone who was ignorant of Mopars or a REALLY BAD custom hack job on a 62 Valiant hartop. So I took a look. Even my wife recognized it as a 63 Convertible from 100 yards away, but it was a Valiant Convertible for $500 bucks! Sure no wheelwells to speak of the floorboards were gone, but I'd always wanted one and it WOULD start and run. Now, either the seller was an idiot or he thought I was because he showed me the title and said "See, it's a 62!" (DMV mistake, I guess) Then he proceeded to point at the "V-200" emblem and said "See, it's a 200 slant six (It's actually a 170). Anyway, now it lives in my garage and one day....

Happy hunting, and sometimes the ignorant can be useful!
