take a bag of tools and a friend, a cell phone , AAA membership and lots of money. I would be most concerned that you have to cross 2 mountain ranges, deserts, and lots of miles. What are the road conditions in say denver when you make this trip. Stick to the major roads, incase you do have problems there will be alot of travelers on the road to help...I spoke with a trucker here in ohio and he said he usually hauls cars for approx $700 from callifornia to ohio. How much is the gas and lodging going to run you? I have drempt of theis same journy buut have never had the guts to do it. So you are a test bed for all of us who want to do the same. I hope it is a very uneventful trip so i can use you as an example and go get a nice duster or demon in california.

Rachel said exactly what my wife said when I told her that I wanted to buy a
'64 880 in California and drive it back to Iowa. Needless to say, I didn't
get the 880.


My vote hasn't changed.  I'd go for it.  Based upon the list of things
repaired, the risk versus reward rating points to flying out and driving it
back.  The reward of driving your new purchase cross-country far outweighs
the minor failures possible.  The trip is not without risks, however.  As
long as you are prepared to deal with a major mechanical failure (more time
and money than originally planned), I would proceed.  Another consideration
would also be the "spouse factor".  As long as she is cool and mentally
prepared, you're good to go.

The car may suffer a mechanical failure, but if nothing else, you'll have a
story and memories that will last a lifetime.
