The thing that would concern me was that extra noise in the rearend. A 
2000+ mile trip could turn that into a broken rearend along I-70 
somewhere out in BFE....you can get a tow to the nearest garage with 
AAA, but it may be 100 miles from the nearest place to get a rearend and 
you with no parts chaser. My wife and I rode to my sisters college 
graduation in 78 with my parents in Mom's 73 Swinger, only to have the 
rearend go out when we got there, 100 miles from home. Had to pull the 
driveshaft and tow it back with my sister's 72 Cutlass because Dad 
couldn't find a rearend near by.
