Don, here are a few thoughts and things:

The '65 and '66 aren't totally interchangeable. You can change front end stuff more as a unit. The quarters are shaped differently, and both bumpers are different between these years. The dash instrument cluster is more elaborate and larger in the '66 compared to the '65. The '66 seats are different, built more like the '67 and later, but you can put the whole seats from one to the other. One good reason to do this is because the '66 has a bunch more choice of upholstery colors at Legendary than the '65.

You generally will need to modify the transmission crossmember to accomodate a later 904, and while I haven't done it, I understand the 727 needs some work to the tunnel itself to fit. I have put a later 904 in an early A and found that I needed to do three primary things to make it work: drop the transmission crossmember by about 1.25 inch, which still allows a good driveshaft angle while providing room for the fatter tailshaft area; grind down the head of the trans crossmember bolt nearest the trans on the driver's side, for clearance for the speedo cable, which needs to be the '66-'67 cable to mate up the early speedo head with the later speedo drive; deal with the shifter situation when doing a '64 or '65. In one pushbutton car I just installed an aftermarket floor shifter. In my '65 Barracuda, for which I'm gathering parts now to make such a swap, I bought the Imperial SErvices adaptor cable to mate my original cable floor shifter to work with a later trans. On that Speedo cable, NAPA has it for cheaper than the same cables offered at the Mopar specialty vendors, and the NAPA cable, while barely long enough for an early B, is plenty long for A bodies.

The rest of it will be the "usual" stuff: mounts from Schumacher or do a little adapting, radiator, on the '65 install a '65 V8 gas pedal assembly, or actually the later A body gas pedal assembly can be made to work, with cable to replace the 6-banger rod affair; I think the oil pan sump needs to be moved back about 2", don't know yet from personal experience but I'll be finding out soon and I know you have to do that to put a later slant 6 in an early A; naturally the wiring etc.

I have recently traded my BMW for a 1966 barracuda that was rolled on the front, rear glass is still good, one front wheal is bent in, roof buckled up, hood and front fenders are crunched. I have yet to see this car, but it's a 3 on the tree, slant six said to still run and drive up on a trailer. I also have a 1965 barracuda with no power train, and no rear-end, needs rear glass, and interior redone completely. I also have a 1971 360 motor, rebuilt with a few performance parts.
"NOW", I thought maybe I would restore the 1966 barracuda and use the 1965 barracuda as my first race car with the 360 motor. What do you all think? Are most all the body parts interchangeable, what about the interior? What are the differences between the 65, and 66 barracudas?
My email is realdeal69dude2003@xxxxxxxxx please, I could use all the info I can get guys and gals. I need to come up with a good solid plan before I start.
What type of racing would be a good idea for the 1965 and the 360? What would be a good starter. I am getting into this a little late in life, I'm 39. Better late then never I guess huh? I thought maybe just quarter mile since I really have never been a spectator for any sports, always a participant.

Thanks, Don L. in Mid-MO.
