Hi Greg,
Someone else on the list may have the more correct terminology, but I think
you want to try adjusting the sector shaft. You do it with a combo wrench
and an allen wrench ( It should be right on top of the stearing gear box).
If I remember from doing it years ago, you first loosen the nut, tighten the
allen bolt in the center (while holding the nut to keep it from turning),
then tighten the nut again. If that doesn't improve it to your liking, the
gearbox probably needs to be rebuilt.
Hope this helps,

Howdy, I just got my 62 Newport back here to Wi. The steering is quite loose
in it. I am constantly having to correct turning left and right on the wheel
to keep it going straight. Any "usual suspects" to check first? Power
steering
box? Thanks in advance, Greg
