Thanks guys, I need to get that trans out of where it is stored to get a photo. It is a small hole in a non-structural area.
-- Actually I gave it some thought (gotta be careful of that, may hurt my brain) because I have been designing aluminum weldments for years. The weldments need to be stress relieved before finish machining. It is normally not a good idea to weld on finished machined parts. But since this is a casting, that may not be a problem, I need to check on that. If welded, I would have a machine shop finish bore the hole so a close fit plug can be installed for minimal welding. But may be better to bond a close fit plug with a high grade epoxy, to avoid the welding. A lot of effort for an old trans, but I thought since it could be used by someone building a Max Wedge or Hemi clone and was having difficulty locating the right trans case it would be worth the effort. I kept it my swap meet parts pile, I need to get it cleaned up for sale one of these days...
