Its a C clip, you slide it over the tab and are supposed to just squeeze the two ends tight enough to not slide off. A lot of people over collapse them making them hard to get off, such as your case. E clips & Snap Rings are flexible and retain there shape, C clips are rigid and bend open and closed. Usually a screwdriver stuck between the two tabs on the open end and twisted will spread wide enough to slide it off. If done correctly the C clip can be reused several times, in your case it sounds like I would replace it. And again just squeeze it tight enough to not slide off. One other solution is to use a pliers squeezing from the two ends of the C clip on one jaw and the tab on the other jaw will force the clip off, or enough to get a punch between the tab and the back of the C clip and pry it off. Subject: Snap Ring Removal?
There's a snap ring holding my parking brakes shoes on my '62 Newport
with the drive shaft mounted parking brake.
This snap ring doesn't have the regular holes that I've usually seen.
I don't have snap ring pliers, I'm about to buy a set, but I don't see
how pliers made for snap rings with holes will get this thing off
there?
I can't push it back far enough to slide a screwdriver or something in
from the other side to pull it out either and everytime I try to
spread it apart it spins.
Can it be reused?
