I had to do something similar to mine, the factory ground strap to the
fuel line was rusted and I could not get a ground through the locking
ring so I tinned (soldered) a 18ga wire and stuck it under the locking
ring as it tightened. Works like a charm, but I'd like to come up with
something more permanent...
