  This sock as they call it, should pull off.  It is a press fit.
  Layson's sells them for $12.oo.  I have two 65 Barracud's 
  and I left them off.  I installed in-line filters, just before the 
  pump and remove the filter between the pump and carb.
  Removing the upper filter will prevent fuel spill over in the 
  hot weather.  This is an old trick that was done at mopar
  dealers in the 70's.
