here in oregon, they will let u do it, but of course u have to fill out
form xxyl and pay a small fee to Salem, and the plates have to be
visually inspected by some dude.I dont know if the car has to be
actually crushed and then the license plates can be brought back to
life, 
   I hope it works out for me because I have a couple pair of the old
   blue and  yellow plates that say "pacific wonderland". The hokey ones
   Oregon has now just dont look quite right on a 64 Mopar street
   machine .
  When i asked at DMV here they dint look at me like i was crazy, so i
  asuume its a common request among the old street machiner/antique
  guys.
