Ron,

from what I understand is what you are doing is ok.  When you say the
plates are cleared, what do you mean?  My understanding is that the
donor car had to be declared "dead" to the DMV, and thus making those
plates available.  63 was the first year of the Black plate/yellow
lettering AFAIK.  If your car is a 63, I can't see why it would be a
problem unless of course the plates aren't cleared.  I know several
other people that have these plates.  I can ask them directly if you
like.
