Had several guys tell me 8 years ago a smallblock Chevy would'nt fit in an Astro, but I put a 305 in my wife's Astro in place of the 4.3, nothing had to be cut, I was even able to hook to the stock down pipes. I saw a 65 Dart on Ebay a few weeks ago with a 440 in it, looked good. The only thing I noticed out of the ordinary was the master cylinder turned at an angle for celarance. So, stuff that 392 in that A-body and have something nobody else does!
